• India's largest green hydrogen plant – Larsen & Toubro subsidiary L&T Energy Greentech will set up a green hydrogen plant at Indian Oil Corporation's Panipat Refinery in Haryana. This will be India's largest green hydrogen plant, producing 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year for 25 years. The initiative aims to decarbonise IOCL's refining process and help achieve India's net-zero target.
• Two Indian sailors successfully undertake expedition in Atlantic Ocean - Two Indian sailors, Senior Scientist Raju Ramesh and Commander (Retd) Jatinder Pal Singh, aboard the French submarine Nautile , successfully undertook deep-sea expeditions to depths of 4,025 metres and 5,002 metres respectively in the Atlantic Ocean on August 5 and 6, 2025. This is the first time India has achieved such a feat.
He completed the first dive, for a total duration of approximately seven hours, and returned safely to the surface. For the first time, Indian sailors hoisted the Indian flag at 5,000 metres below sea level. So far, most submarine dives by Indians have been limited to 500 metres, and the previous record was 670 metres, held by a seafarer, Commander (Retd) Jatinder Pal Singh. This is part of preparations for Samudrayaan, India's first manned deep-sea mission, which aims to send three sailors to 6,000 metres in an Indian-built titanium submarine by 2027.
• 13th High Level Meeting between Indian Coast Guard and Korean Coast Guard, 2025 – The 13th High Level Meeting between Indian Coast Guard and Korean Coast Guard was held on July 21, 2025 in New Delhi. The two sides discussed ways to boost cooperation in maritime search and rescue, pollution response and maritime law enforcement, while reaffirming their commitment to sharing best practices and enhancing interoperability under the 2006 MoU.
• 'Shaktishree' programme - The Odisha government has decided to launch a special programme, 'Shaktishree', to ensure the safety of girl students in the state's colleges and universities . Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced this in Bhubaneswar. This programme will be implemented in all 16 universities and 730 government and aided colleges under the state's Higher Education Department.This announcement has been made after the recent incident of self-immolation by a student of FM College, Balasore.
• Energy Dialogue 2025 – The second edition of Energy Dialogue 2025, India's premier upstream energy conference, was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on July 17, 2025. It was organised by the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons. This year, the conference focused on four thematic areas – Strategic Energy Resilience, Collaboration for a Better Tomorrow, Digital and AI in E&P, and Shifting to New Energy. The conference will bring together policymakers, industry professionals, think tanks and technical experts to address key challenges facing India's hydrocarbon sector.
• Chitrakoot Link Expressway – Chitrakoot Link Expressway is an upcoming expressway in Uttar Pradesh that will connect Chitrakoot to Bundelkhand Expressway. This 15.17 km long link expressway will be made 6-lane, the construction of which will cost ₹939.67 crore.
• Indian Open Athletics Meet, 2025 – The Indian Open Athletics Meet was held on July 19, 2025 at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar. 'Indian Open Athletics Meet' has been organised for the first time in Bihar. It was organised by the Athletics Federation of India in collaboration with the Bihar State Sports Authority, with top athletes from across the country participating.
• 4th World Food India, 2025 - The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India is organising the 4th edition of World Food India from 25th to 28th September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate it on 25th September. Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan will also attend this inauguration ceremony.
The objective of this event is to make India the “Food Hub of the World” by promoting collaboration, innovation and investment in the food processing value chain. The focus will be on promoting investment, innovation, and partnerships. A large number of domestic and international companies will participate. This time New Zealand and Saudi Arabia will be partner countries, while Japan, UAE, Vietnam and Russia will be included as focus countries.
• Bihar State Safai Karamchari Commission – The ruling NDA government led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has approved the formation of State Safai Karamchari Commission for the all-round socio-economic upliftment of the Safai Karamcharis. The Commission will have a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson and five members including one woman and one transgender. This committee will play an important role in bringing the deprived sections of the society engaged in sanitation work into the mainstream of their development.
• Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Memorial Stupa - Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the ₹540 crore Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Memorial Stupa in Vaishali. The relics of Buddha's ashes have been enshrined here. This museum is situated on a 72 acre plot. It has been constructed with pink stones brought from Rajasthan. In the entire structure made of stones, no adhesive material has been used to join the stones.
The Buddha Memorial Stupa at Vaishali, under construction, has a total height of 33 metres, an internal diameter of 38 metres, and an external diameter of 50 metres. Up to 2,000 Buddhist monks can meditate and worship together inside this stupa.
• Memorial dedicated to tigress Machhli “Lady of the Lakes” – Minister of State for Forest and Environment (Independent Charge) Sanjay Sharma unveiled a grand memorial dedicated to tigress ‘Machhli’ (T-16) at Jogi Mahal Gate, Ranthambore Tiger Reserve on the occasion of Global Tiger Day (29th July 2025). It is noteworthy that Ranthambore's most famous tigress, "Machhli" (T-16), was born in 1997. She earned this name due to the fish-like shape of her face. She was also known as the " Lady of the Lakes " for her years of control over the lakes of Padam Talab, Rajbagh, and Malik Talab , and the "Crocodile Killer" for defeating a large crocodile.
'Machhli' gave birth to cubs five times and repopulated Ranthambore during the poaching crisis of 2004-05. A large part of the current tiger population of Ranthambore is made up of descendants of 'Machhli'. Machhli died in 2016 at the age of about 19 years, which is considered an unprecedented age for a wild tigress. The documentary "The World's Most Famous Tiger" based on the life of tigress 'Machhli' also received the National Film Award. In the year 2013, the Government of India honoured him at the national level by issuing a commemorative postage stamp on 'Machhli'.
• All India Education Conclave, 2025 – Ministry of Education is organizing All India Education Conclave, 2025 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the programme.In this, the Ministry of Education announced a series of digital, infrastructure and educational initiatives worth more than Rs 4,000 crore. The All India Education Summit (ABSS), 2025 served as a platform for academicians, policymakers, teachers, industry leaders and government representatives to review the significant progress made under NEP 2020 and chart the way forward.
• AI Impact Summit – The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit will be hosted by India from February 19 to 20, 2026 in New Delhi.The summit will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact. It will highlight its commitment to making Artificial Intelligence (AI) accessible and beneficial for the public good. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Parliament that the summit is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of using technology to serve all sections of society. The programme will focus on the use of AI to address real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, climate change and governance.
• Exhibition organised on ' Development of Education in North-East India' - The National Archives of India in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland organised an exhibition on the theme 'Development of Education in North-East India' at Kohima. The exhibition highlights the educational heritage of Northeast India through various archival documents, such as government files, private papers, photographs and manuscripts, covering various historical aspects such as tribal traditions, missionary influence, and colonial legacy.
• Green Hydrogen Plant Inaugurated – Deendayal Port Authority has commissioned India's first indigenously built green hydrogen plant at Kandla, Gujarat. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated a 1 MW capacity Green Hydrogen Power Plant at Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla. This is an important step towards achieving the Prime Minister's vision of 2030 under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
This is part of a larger 10 MW green hydrogen project, the foundation stone of which was laid by the Prime Minister on May 26, 2025 in Bhuj. The 1 MW module was commissioned in just four months and is capable of producing approximately 140 metric tons of green hydrogen annually.
• India's first AI-based road safety initiative – India's first AI-based road safety initiative has been launched in Uttar Pradesh , launched by ITI Limited and Amlogica with the approval of MoRTH. The pilot project aims to use artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics to reduce road accidents, improve traffic enforcement and identify accident hotspots. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued formal no-objection for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics based road safety pilot project of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department.
• National Conference on ' Aging in India: Emerging Reality, Evolving Responses' - National Conference on 'Aging in India: Emerging Reality, Evolving Responses' was organised in New Delhi on August 1, 2025. It was organised by Sankala Foundation in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, NITI Aayog, Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The main objective of this conference was to protect the human rights and dignity of senior citizens and to redefine old age as an opportunity. It aimed to promote innovative policies, encourage dialogue with stakeholders and highlight best practices to address the emerging challenges and opportunities of India's ageing population.
• Gyan Bharatam Mission - The central government has launched the Gyan Bharatam Mission to disseminate Indian knowledge found in manuscripts to the next generation. Announced in the Budget speech for 2025-26, the mission will preserve over one crore manuscripts and make them available in various Indian languages.
• Maritime Cargo Transport Bill, 2025 – The Maritime Cargo Transport Act, 2025 is an Act passed by the Parliament of India to replace the Maritime Cargo Transport Act, 1925. This Act establishes the responsibilities, obligations, rights and immunities in the matter of moving goods through the port. The Bill empowers the Central Government to issue directions for carrying out the provisions of the Bill and to amend the Schedule specifying the rules applicable to bills of lading.
A bill of lading is a document issued by a carrier to a consignee. It contains details such as the type, quantity, condition, and destination of the goods being transported. The Maritime Cargo Transport Bill, 2025 aims to repeal a 100-year-old law and replace it with a new one. This new law will ensure ease of doing business through simple and rational laws.
• First State to empanel Sign Language Experts – Punjab has become the first state in India to empanel sign language interpreters, translators and special educators under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 to ensure accessible and sensitive justice for all, especially children with hearing and speech impairments. This announcement was made by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur. These experts will be deployed district-wise to provide support services to children in need.
• National Conference on Critical Minerals, 2025 – Geological Survey of India (GSI) is organizing a National Conference on Critical Minerals on 7th and 8th August 2025 at Jabalpur , Madhya Pradesh to commemorate its 175th Foundation Year Celebrations. Its theme is - "Critical Minerals: Exploration and Exploitation". The conference was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Rani Durgavati University and Chief Guest Professor Rajesh Kumar Verma and Director General of GSI Mr. Asit Saha.
• State Visit of President of the Philippines to India - At the invitation of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., President of the Republic of the Philippines , paid a State Visit to India from August 4-8, 2025. He was accompanied by First Lady Madam Louise Araneta Marcos and a high-level delegation to India. President Marcos also visited Bengaluru before returning to the Philippines on August 8, 2025.
• Prime Minister's State Visit to Maldives- Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a State Visit to Maldives from 25 to 26 July 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the celebrations, as the 'Chief Guest' of the 60th anniversary of Maldives' independence. Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu also welcomed the visit and described it as a 'decisive visit' that will shape the future of bilateral relations.
India also announced a new loan assistance of Rs 4,850 crore to support infrastructure development in Maldives, the first such assistance by India in its own currency. An amendment agreement reduced Maldives' annual debt repayment obligations by 40%, from $51 million to $29 million. Furthermore, the two countries began negotiations on a free trade agreement aimed at strengthening economic ties and bilateral trade. This year also marks 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. To mark the occasion, the two leaders released commemorative postage stamps.
• Prime Minister's official visit to the United Kingdom - Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on an official visit to the United Kingdom from 23 to 24 July 2025. India and Britain on July 24, 2025 signed a landmark trade deal to boost two-way trade by eliminating tariffs on cars, textiles, whisky and other products. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer strengthened the 'Vision 2035' strategy to expand ties in the areas of defence, technology, clean energy and migration. Prime Minister Modi met King Charles III at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, eastern England, and presented him with a sapling as part of his environmental initiative "A Tree for Mother Earth".
• Karnataka Devadasi (Prohibition, Prohibition, Relief and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2025 - The Karnataka Devadasi (Prohibition, Prohibition, Relief and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2025 is a new law to abolish the Devadasi system and empower women and their children affected by it, replacing the old 1982 Act. The main objective of this Bill is to free Devadasis and their children from exploitation, provide them relief and rehabilitation, and also to end their social stigma by allowing the children to register their father's name or establish their parental identity through DNA testing.
• CATCH Grant Program – CATCH Grant Program is a program jointly launched by IndiaAI and National Cancer Grid (NCG). It aims to promote solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help in cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment in India.
• Devastating flood in Dharali – On August 5, 2025 , a flash flood in the Kheer Ganga river caused by cloudburst and heavy rains in Dharali, Uttarkashi district , Uttarakhand, caused massive devastation. A cloudburst struck Dharali in Uttarkashi at 1:45 pm on August 5. The Kheer Ganga River flooded, devastating approximately 20 hectares of Dharali village in 34 seconds.
• Country's first state-of-the-art animal stem cell biobank and laboratory - India's first state-of-the-art animal stem cell biobank and animal stem cell laboratory of its kind was opened at the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh formally inaugurated the laboratory here. Spread over 9,300 sq ft and built at a cost of ₹1.85 crore, it is a state-of-the-art facility that will store and preserve high-quality stem cells from various animal species.
• Ladakh's first botanical garden – The first botanical garden of the Union Territory of Ladakh is being set up in Shyok village, located in the Galwan Valley. It is situated on the way to. Located in eastern Ladakh, the garden will focus on conserving local fruits, herbs and biodiversity of Ladakh in 10 hectares of barren community land.
• The country's and Asia's longest freight train - Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone by completing the trial run of Asia's longest freight train 'Rudrastra'. The train stretches for a length of 4.5 kilometres. Asia's longest freight train, Rudrastra, has 354 wagons and is pulled by seven powerful locomotives. It consisted of a total of 354 wagons, of which one empty wagon was loaded with 72 tonnes of goods.
The trials of Rudrastra began from Ganjkhwaja station in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh and ended at Garhwa in Jharkhand, covering a distance of 209 km in just five hours, and the massive train was able to maintain an average speed of around 40.5 km/h. It has been named 'Rudrastra', which is inspired by Lord Shiva. Australia's BHP holds the record for the world's longest freight train. That train was 7.3 kilometers long and consisted of 682 wagons.
• 18th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, 2025 – The 18th International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad (IOAA) was held from 11 to 21 August 2025 in Mumbai, India, with participation of more than 300 students from 64 countries. The competition was organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, a national centre of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). India won 4 gold and 1 silver medals in this event.
• Har Ghar Tiranga Patriotic Film Festival, 2025 – “Har Ghar Tiranga Patriotic Film Festival 2025” was a nationwide event organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), which ran from August 11 to 13, 2025. The event showcased patriotic classic and modern films, aimed at deepening citizens' emotional connect with the National Flag, while celebrating India's journey to independence and stories of the nation's unity. The festival was launched with grand opening ceremonies in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune.
• Inauguration and foundation stone laying of Metro projects in Karnataka – Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated major metro infrastructure projects worth around ₹22,800 crore in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The event saw the inauguration of the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, worth approximately ₹7,160 crore, and the laying of the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro Phase-3, estimated to cost over ₹15,610 crore. During this program, he also flagged off three Vande Bharat Express trains.
The Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, running from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra, has 16 stations and covers a distance of over 19 kilometers. With its opening, the Bengaluru Metro's operational network has grown to over 96 kilometers.
• 'Brahma-BEML Rail Manufacturing Hub'- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone of 'Brahma-BEML Rail Manufacturing Hub' at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore in Madhya Pradesh. This plant will be established on more than 60 hectares of land in Umaria village of Raisen district. This modern plant will provide world-class facilities for design, manufacture, assembly and testing of defence products as well as trains like Vande Bharat and metro coaches. The Defence Minister said that the unit has been named 'Brahma' after the creator as per Indian tradition.
• Exhibition on Indian Architectural Science, Vastushastra, 2025 – In August 2025, the Department of Sanskrit and Oriental Studies, University of Kelaniya organized for the first time “Exhibition on Indian Architectural Science, Vastushastra” in Colombo, Sri Lanka, showcasing the research and creative works of graduate students.
•'Har Ghar Tiranga' Campaign - On the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day, the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign has been relaunched. The campaign encourages citizens of the country to hoist the national flag at their homes from August 2 to 15, 2025. Participants in this campaign can receive a digital certificate and e-card by uploading their selfie on the official portal. It aims to celebrate patriotism and national unity through digital and community initiatives. It is noteworthy that this campaign was launched as part of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations of Azadi to commemorate the completion of 75 years of India's independence in the year 2022.
• FAITH Conclave, 2025 – Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH), the apex policy body representing India's tourism, travel and hospitality sectors, organised a National Tourism Conclave on the theme “Indian Tourism The Unstoppable Spirit” in New Delhi . The vision sets ambitious targets for India to become a $3 trillion tourism economy by 2047, attract 100 million inbound tourists, generate 20 billion domestic trips and create 200 million tourism-related jobs. Its broad goal is to increase the share of the tourism sector in India's GDP from 5% to 10% over the next two decades.
• National Conference on Metrology, 2025 – National Conference on Metrology, 2025 (MAPIKI 2025) was organised by CSIR-National Physical Laboratory on 11th and 12th August, 2025 at New Delhi .The theme of the conference was 'Measurement for all time, measurement for all people'. The objective of the event was to bring all stakeholders on one platform and discuss the developments, innovations and challenges in the field of metrology to strengthen the metrological traceability chain in the country and contribute to the economic and social development of the country.
• Pradhan Mantri Vikas Bharat Rojgar Yojana – Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Vikas Bharat Rojgar Yojana on 15th August 2025, which aims to create large scale employment and empower the youth in the country. This ambitious scheme with a budget of ₹1 lakh crore aims to create 3.5 crore jobs in the next two years, especially benefiting first-time job seekers and private sector employers. It is an employment-linked incentive scheme, which is being implemented through the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).
This will directly benefit both first-time job seekers and private sector employers who hire them, such as MSME, manufacturing, services and technology industries. Under this scheme, to create new employment opportunities, new youth will be given an incentive of up to Rs 15 thousand in two installments and employers will be given an incentive of up to Rs 3 thousand per month per new employee.
• Uttar Pradesh's first green hydrogen plant - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the state's first and the country's second green hydrogen plant set up by Torrent Gas and Torrent Power at Khanimpur village in Gorakhpur district. In this plant, two percent green hydrogen will be produced from natural gas. This green hydrogen will be used to improve the quality of vehicles and cooking gas fuel. This will prevent 500 tons of carbon emissions every year.
• National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 – The Lok Sabha passed the National Anti-Doping Amendment Bill, 2025 on August 11, 2025. The Bill seeks to amend the National Anti-Doping Act, 2022. Doping is the use of certain banned substances by athletes to improve their performance. This Act gives effect to the UNESCO Convention against Doping in Sport. It prohibits doping in sport and provides a framework for the investigation, enforcement, and adjudication of violations. It establishes the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to enforce anti-doping rules. It also establishes the National Sports Anti-Doping Board to monitor the activities of NADA and advise the central government on anti-doping regulations.
• India's first AI-powered Anganwadi - The country's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered Anganwadi centre was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on July 27, 2025, in Vadhamna village in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. Launched under the Nagpur Zilla Parishad's 'Mission Bal Bharari' scheme, this AI-powered Anganwadi has transformed traditional education into interactive digital learning. It aims to bring cutting-edge technology like VR headsets, AI dashboards and interactive digital content to rural pre-school classrooms. The initiative aims to bridge the rural-urban digital divide and provide equal quality education to all children.
• First privately managed station in Uttar Pradesh – The first privately managed station in Uttar Pradesh is Gomti Nagar Railway station in Lucknow. Private companies have been entrusted with the management of catering, parking and other facilities, while train operations, security and ticket booking remain under the Indian Railways. The aim is to give it an airport-like feel. Private operators will be given licences for nine years, which can be extended for three more years.
• Madhya Pradesh's largest water park - Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav virtually inaugurated Madhya Pradesh's largest water park, "Imagica Aqua". The water park has been developed on 25 acres in Indore at a cost of ₹220 crore.
• Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad Bihar Gaurav Udyan (Waste-to-Wonder Theme Park) - Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone of Deshratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad Bihar Gaurav Udyan (Waste-to-Wonder Theme Park) to be built at a cost of Rs 14.98 crore in Patna. This park will be built on about 10 acres of land near the tomb of Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad. This park will be built from scrap on the lines of Chandigarh Rock Garden. In this park, famous monuments of Bihar will be prepared through scrap.
• Space lab inaugurated in Arunachal Pradesh – Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona inaugurated a state-of-the-art space lab at remote Mechuka in Shi-Yomi district. The laboratory, set up at Mechuka Government Higher Secondary School in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Muskan Foundation, aims to provide students with hands-on experience in space science and technology, fostering curiosity, innovation and scientific temper among the youth. It has been named Pasang Wangchuk Sona ISRO Space Laboratory in honour of the minister's late father.
•'Bill of Lading, 2025 ' Bill - During the monsoon session of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha passed the Bill of Lading, 2025, which aims to update and simplify the legal framework for shipping documents. It will replace the Indian Bill of Lading Act, 1856. A bill of lading is a document issued by a carrier to a consignee. It contains details of the goods being transported, including the type, quantity, condition, and destination.
• Impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma – Impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma has been accepted in the Lok Sabha on August 12, 2025. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla informed the House that he had received this motion on July 31, 2025. A total of 146 Lok Sabha members and 63 Rajya Sabha members have signed this motion. With this, the way has been cleared for the proceedings to remove him from the post under Articles 124(4), 217 and 218 of the Constitution.
The case stems from a controversy that erupted in March 2025, when bundles of burnt currency notes were recovered during a fire at his official residence in Delhi. Although Justice Verma was not present at the time, a three-member internal judicial inquiry later concluded that he was in control of the cash. Based on this report, the Chief Justice of India recommended his dismissal.
• Groundbreaking ceremony for the Punauradham Temple and Complex, the birthplace of Sita, in Sitamarhi - Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, performed the groundbreaking ceremony for a comprehensive project for the comprehensive development of the Punaura Dham Temple and Complex, the birthplace of Sita, in Sitamarhi district, Bihar. It is expected to be completed by 2028.
On the lines of the grand Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya, this temple complex is being constructed on 67 acres of land, the total cost of which is Rs 882.87 crore. The height of the temple will be 151 feet. For this Bhoomi Pujan, soil from 21 pilgrimage sites of the country and water from 31 rivers were brought. It is noteworthy that Punaura Dham is considered to be the birthplace of Mother Sita.
• Return of the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Gautam Buddha to India – The sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha have returned to India from Hong Kong after 127 years. These remains were discovered in the year 1898, but were moved out of India during the colonial period. These sacred relics were discovered in 1898 from Piprahwa village in Uttar Pradesh.
• India's first Hornbill Conservation Centre - The Tamil Nadu government has announced setting up of the country's first Hornbill Conservation Centre of Excellence in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve in Coimbatore district , which will be dedicated to the long-term study and conservation of the endangered species. Hornbills are often called " farmers of the forest" because of their important role in seed dispersal and forest regeneration. The Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests has sanctioned an amount of ₹1 crore under the Endangered Species Conservation Fund for setting up this centre.
• Next Generation APT 2.0 Application– Taking a significant step towards digital transformation, the Department of Posts launched the advanced Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0 Application in all the post offices of Erode Division on August 4, 2025. The APT application has been designed to provide better usability, faster service and a more customer-friendly interface.
• Government Polytechnics to be Upgraded with Tata Collaboration - 121 government polytechnic colleges in Uttar Pradesh will be developed as Centers of Excellence in collaboration with Tata Technologies. In the first phase, 45 colleges will be upgraded. This project will provide rural youth with better opportunities in technical education. Each institute will receive approximately ₹57.32 million for modern equipment and labs that will help students pursue startups and innovation.
• Unveiling of Ashoka Pillar Replica at Waskaduwa– A replica of the Ashoka Pillar was unveiled in July, 2025 near the Subhuti Viharaya Temple located in Waskaduwa village in Kalutara district of Sri Lanka. The temple administration has erected this pillar to commemorate the great contribution made by Emperor Ashoka in propagating Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The foundation stone of this pillar was laid on 28 January 2024 by Shri Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India and Shortse Khensur Jungchup Choden Rinpoche, Secretary of the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC).
• Bharat Skills Next 2025 - The Bharat Skills Next 2025 event was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event marked the 10th anniversary of the Skill India Mission. The event celebrated the Mission's achievements.
• Kargil Shaurya Vatika - On the initiative of Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Kargil Shaurya Vatika is being constructed in the Assembly premises in which 11,000 plants of five species will be planted. Kargil Shaurya Vatika is being established in the Rajasthan Assembly premises in the memory of the soldiers martyred in the Kargil victory. Plants of Sindoor, Erica Palm, Song of India, Kisan Ficus and Croton species will be planted in this garden.
• Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao Campaign – With the onset of monsoon, cities across India are increasing their commitment to cleanliness and public health under the Swachhata Apnao, Bimari Bhagao 2025 (July 1-July 31) campaign led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The campaign is turning into a nationwide movement that reinforces the power of the '6 Swachhata Mantras'- clean hands, homes, neighbourhood, toilets, drains and public places.
• Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival – Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival 2025, a festival organised by the Ministry of Culture, was celebrated from 23 to 27 July 2025 at Gangaikondacholapuram, Tamil Nadu.This special festival also commemorates the 1,000th anniversary of Rajendra Chola's legendary voyage to South East Asia and the beginning of the construction of the iconic Gangaikondacholapuram Temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture.
• National Seminar on Women Safety at Workplace and Public Places, 2025 - National Seminar on 'Women Safety at Workplace and Public Places, 2025' was organised in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was organised by the National Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Chair, Department of Sociology, University of Lucknow. This initiative was taken in view of the increasing incidents of crime against women in both professional environment and public sector across the country. Justice V. • Direct recruitment of Agniveers into the Tiger Protection Force of Corbett Tiger Reserve - Agniveer soldiers will be directly recruited into the Tiger Protection Force being formed in the Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami made this announcement on International Tiger Day. Its objective is to protect tigers and their habitats, prevent poaching and take action against wildlife-related crimes. This security force will also deal with problems like timber smuggling, illegal mining, encroachment and human-wildlife conflict.
• Meghalaya Pineapple Festival, 2025 – Meghalaya Pineapple Festival, 2025 held in New Delhi from August 1-3, 2025. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended this festival. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma also participated in it.
• Developed India Dialogue, 2025- Developed India Dialogue, 2025 was held on August 3, 2025 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. • First BIMSTEC Traditional Music Festival, 2025 – The first BIMSTEC Traditional Music Festival was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.Artists from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand performed in this musical evening. • 3rd Bihar Museum Biennale, 2025 - The 3rd Bihar Museum Biennale, 2025 began in Patna on August 7, 2025. The event will continue till December 31. Its main theme is – “Global South: Sharing Histories”. It is a mega event organised by the Bihar Museum, Patna, in which museums from across the world discuss their issues, themes and methods of promotion every two years. Artists and experts from Ethiopia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and other countries will participate in events such as seminars, exhibitions and cultural programs. • India's longest route Vande Bharat train - On August 10, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India's longest route Vande Bharat train on the Nagpur-Pune corridor through video conferencing. The name of this train is Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat Express. The distance from Nagpur to Pune can be covered in approximately 12 hours by Nagpur (Ajni)-Pune Vande Bharat Express.

Developed in association with Green Gold Animation Pvt Ltd, the comic series follows the adventures of Bheem, a brave and kind-hearted boy in the f ictional kingdom of Dholakpur. • Henley Passport Index, 2025 - Singapore tops the list of the world's most powerful passports, with visa-free access to 193 out of 227 destinations worldwide, according to the Henley Passport Index, 2025. Japan and South Korea are tied for second place with access to 190 destinations. Seven EU passports are in third place, namely Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain, with access to 189 destinations. In fourth place is another European group of seven countries – Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden, which allow visa-free entry to 188 destinations.
New Zealand is tied for fifth place with Switzerland and Greece. Britain and the US are now ranked sixth and tenth respectively. The Middle East's United Arab Emirates is the only country to break into the top 10 in the global passport rankings, now in eighth place.
India has moved up eight places to 77th in the Henley Passport Index 2025, from 85th last year. Indian passport holders currently have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 59 destinations. Afghanistan (99th) holds the title of the weakest passport in the world, allowing travel to only 25 destinations without a visa in advance. Syria (98th), Iraq (97th), and Pakistan (96th) follow in the rankings.
The Henley Passport Index is a popular ranking of global passports that measures the strength of a passport based on the number of destinations its holder can visit without a prior visa. The index ranks countries based on data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
• Constitutional Amendments in El Salvador– El Salvador President Nayib Bukele's ruling party has passed sweeping constitutional reforms that allow for indefinite presidential elections and extend the presidential term from five to six years. The constitutional amendments, proposed by Ana Figueroa of the ruling New Ideas Party, were quickly approved in the National Assembly, where Bukele's party holds an absolute majority. Fifty-seven lawmakers voted in favor and only three against. These changes affect five articles of the Constitution and also eliminate the need for a second round of re-polls in presidential elections.
The current presidential term, originally set to expire on June 1, 2029, was proposed to be shortened to June 1, 2027. This change would align presidential and congressional elections and allow Bukele to run for a six-year term two years earlier. Bukele won a second term last year, despite a clear prohibition in the country's constitution. El Salvador's Supreme Court, filled with Bukele-supporting judges, ruled in 2021 that running for re-election was a leader's human right.
• Country to ban children under 16 from creating YouTube accounts - Australia will ban children under 16 from creating YouTube accounts from December 2025, the first social media ban to be implemented in the world. The ban already applies to TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), and has now been extended to YouTube following recommendations from the eSafety Commissioner. Although YouTube is primarily seen as a video platform, officials say it exposes children to the same risks as other social media apps, such as harmful content, cyberbullying and mental health problems. Under the new rules, children under 16 will be able to watch YouTube videos without an account, but they won't be able to post content, comment, or receive personalized video recommendations.
• 66th International Mathematical Olympiad, 2025 – The 66th International Mathematical Olympiad, 2025 was held from 10 to 20 July 2025 in Sunshine Coast, Australia. In this, India won three gold, two silver and one bronze medals and achieved its best performance with 193 points and secured 7th position globally. Kanav Talwar and Aarav Gupta of Delhi and Aditya Mangudi of Maharashtra won gold medals. Abel George Mathew of Karnataka and Adish Jain of Delhi won silver medals. Archit Manas of Delhi won bronze.
A total of 630 students, including 69 female participants, participated in the competition. This is the second time India has won three gold medals at this Olympiad after 1998. In 2024, India created history by winning four gold medals. India has won 23 gold medals since the inception of this competition in 1989.
• United Nations Security Council passed Resolution 2788 - The United Nations Security Council unanimously passed Resolution No. 2788 for the peaceful settlement of international disputes. The 15-member body unanimously adopted draft resolution 2788 (2025) (to be published as document S/RES/2788(2025)), which aims to strengthen mechanisms for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
The Council urged all Member States to effectively utilize the mechanisms set forth in Article 33 of the UN Charter for the peaceful settlement of disputes, including through negotiation, inquiry, mediation, conciliation, arbitration, judicial settlement, recourse to regional agencies or mechanisms, or other peaceful means of their choice. It also expressed its readiness to use the investigative mechanisms provided for in Article 34 of the UN Charter. The agreement encourages the UN Secretary-General to ensure that the UN can lead and support mediation and preventive diplomacy efforts, encourages the Secretary-General to continue to exercise his authority, and calls on Member States to support and cooperate with the Secretary-General in this regard.
• Conventional (non-nuclear) aerial bomb GAZAP – Turkey has demonstrated its most powerful non-nuclear bomb GAZAP , which is being called Wrath bomb in English. Turkiye presented this bomb publicly for the first time at the IDEF 2025 international defense industry fair. Turkey's GAZAP bomb weighs approximately 970 kilograms. During the explosion, it releases approximately 10,000 highly toxic particles. These particles break into 10 different types of lethal fragments, causing devastating destruction. This technology distinguishes it from conventional bombs. The explosive capacity of this bomb is about three times more than that of the American MK-84 bomb.
• High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, 2025 – The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, was held in New York from 14 July to 23 July 2025. The theme of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) was "Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals, leaving no one behind".
• First EU country to ban arms trade with Israel – Slovenia is the first EU country to ban all types of arms trade with Israel due to the war in Gaza. Prime Minister Robert Gollob announced the arms embargo, saying the EU was acting independently because of internal divisions and divisions, unable to take concrete action. Earlier, Slovenia's parliament had passed a decree recognising the Palestinian state, following in the footsteps of Ireland, Norway and Spain.
• Bangladesh's first national Multidimensional Poverty Index– On July 31, 2025, Bangladesh released its first national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). The National Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) was released by the General Economics Division (GED) in collaboration with UNICEF and the European Union (EU). According to the report, nearly three in ten children (28.9%) live in multidimensional poverty, significantly higher than the rate for adults (21.44%), and children are disproportionately affected by the deep challenges of poverty in Bangladesh.
The report emphasizes the urgent need to address specific deprivations in children's health, education and living standards, which continue to undermine children's rights and capabilities. Overall, more than 39 million people in Bangladesh live in multidimensional poverty, according to the national Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI). Furthermore, children in rural areas experience multidimensional poverty compared to those in urban areas.
The report clearly highlights regional disparities, with five districts – Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Sunamganj, Rangamati, and Bhola – having more than 40% of people living in multidimensional poverty. Bandarban has the highest rate of 65.36% among the country's 64 districts, while Sylhet Division has the highest rate of 37.70%.
• Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia – On August 8, 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a historic peace agreement at the White House, brokered by US President Donald Trump, ending the decades-long conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Under the agreement, the two countries promised to cease fighting, establish diplomatic relations and open transport routes, including the construction of a major corridor through Armenia, the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPPP). The corridor will connect the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region of Azerbaijan with the rest of Azerbaijan and will be constructed by private companies under the supervision of the United States.
• Second World Summit for Social Development, 2025– The Second World Summit for Social Development will be held in Qatar in November, 2025. Its purpose is to advance social development and justice, and to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its successor.
• Australia recognises the State of Palestine – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on August 11, 2025, that Australia will formally recognise Palestine as an independent state at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.
• Kenya declared free of sleeping sickness - The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the African country of Kenya free of human African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness. Kenya has become the 10th country in the world to eliminate the disease.
• Climate and Gender Policy Dialogue, 2025 – “Climate and Gender Policy Dialogue, 2025” was held in Kathmandu in August, 2025 under the banner of “Green Tech for Women”. The dialogue brought together policymakers, bureaucrats, environmentalists and other key stakeholders to discuss issues of climate change, gender equality and health, with a view to integrating these into national policy frameworks and increasing youth participation in climate action.
• AI-powered passenger corridor launched – Dubai International Airport (DXB) has launched an AI-powered passenger corridor, allowing passengers to complete the immigration process in just seconds. It is the world's first AI-powered passenger corridor. In this system, the passenger does not have to show any documents, and identity is confirmed in 6 to 14 seconds using facial recognition and pre-registered biometric data, eliminating traditional passport control.
• Magnitude 8.8 Earthquake in Russia – On July 30, 2025, a powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
• GENIUS Act – US President Donald Trump has signed a law to create a regulatory regime for US dollar-pegged cryptocurrencies, known as stablecoins. The bill, called the Genius Act, passed the House by a landslide 308-122, receiving support from nearly half of Democratic members and most Republicans. This is being seen as a major step toward US leadership in crypto finance, a milestone that could pave the way for digital assets to become a common method of payment and money transfer.

• Approval for 'Aquaculture Project' and 'Agri Export Hub' in Uttar Pradesh - The Uttar Pradesh government, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the proposal for two major schemes under UPAGRIZ (Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Growth and Rural Enterprise Ecosystem Strengthening Project). These include aquaculture projects in 28 districts of Purvanchal and Bundelkhand and establishment of an agri export hub near Jewar International Airport.
The UPAGRIZ project is being implemented in partnership (70:30) between the World Bank and the State Government for a period of 6 years from 2024-25 to 2029-30. Assistance will be provided to UAE multinational company 'Aquabridge' for aquaculture project and to Innova Food Park, Kolar, Karnataka for setting up an agri export hub near Jewar International Airport. The aquaculture project will develop infrastructure for fish farming and promote exports. A proposed investment of ₹4,000 crore will establish a world-class training center and a buy-back system for fish product exports.
At the same time, through the Agri Export Hub, it will be easier to export agricultural and horticultural products to markets like Middle East, Europe and Russia. These projects will increase the income of farmers and fish producers and create new employment opportunities at the local level.
• Increase in the amount of stamp duty exemption to women on property registration (deed) in Uttar Pradesh - The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the proposal to increase the amount of stamp duty exemption to women on property registration (deed) in the state. Now in Uttar Pradesh, if property (like house, land etc.) worth up to Rs 1 crore is purchased in the name of a woman, then there will be a 1% rebate in stamp duty on it. Till now, this exemption in the state was applicable only on property worth up to Rs 10 lakh, in which a maximum exemption of Rs 10 thousand was available.
• Swachh Survekshan, 2024-25 - President Smt. Draupadi Murmu presented the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards, organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 is the 9th edition of the world's largest urban cleanliness survey. A total of 78 awards were given this year across 4 categories. The Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards are focused on the theme of “ Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.
For the first time in Swachh Survekshan, cities have been classified into five categories based on population which include (1) Very small cities: 20,000 population (2) Small cities: 20,000 - 50,000 population (3) Medium cities: 50,000 - 3 lakh population (4) Large cities: 3 - 10 lakh population and (5) Cities with population more than one million (10 lakh population).
Indore has once again emerged as the cleanest city in the country in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 . This is its eighth consecutive year. In the Swachh Super League, Indore is followed by Surat in second place and Navi Mumbai in third place for cities with a population of over 1 million. Vijayawada ranked fourth. In the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25, maximum 10 cities from Maharashtra have made it to the list, followed by eight from Madhya Pradesh , eight from Chhattisgarh , five from Uttar Pradesh and four from Gujarat.
Eight years ago, 73 cities were associated with this campaign, whereas now more than 45 hundred small and big cities have joined the Swachh Survey campaign of 2024-25.
Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh was awarded the Best Ganga City Award , Secunderabad was awarded the Best Cantonment Board Award. Ahmedabad, Bhopal and Lucknow were declared the best clean cities of the new generation. Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur and Gorakhpur received the Best Safai Mitra Safe City award for prioritizing the safety, dignity and welfare of sanitation workers .
A special award was presented to the Uttar Pradesh government, Prayagraj Mela Officer and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation for the successful management of urban waste during the Maha Kumbh, which was attended by a record number of around 66 crore people.

• World Economic Outlook Update, July 2025 – According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) World Economic Outlook for July 2025, global growth is projected to be 3.0% in 2025 and 3.1% in 2026, better than previously estimated.
• Merger of New India Co-operative Bank Limited with Saraswat Co-operative Bank - The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the merger of New India Co-operative Bank with Saraswat Co-operative Bank, the largest urban co-operative bank.
The merger will be effective from August 4, 2025. Consequently, Saraswat Bank will take over all the assets and liabilities of New India Co-operative Bank and all its branches will function as branches of Saraswat Bank. All customers including depositors of New India Co-operative Bank will be treated as customers of Saraswat Bank with effect from August 4, 2025.
• Acquisition of Iveco Group – Tata Motors Ltd has signed an agreement to acquire Italian truck maker Iveco for Rs 38,000 crore ($4.5 billion). Once completed, this will be Tata Motors' largest acquisition since the company bought Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in 2008 for $2.3 billion.
• Establishment of Tourism Investment Promotion Council in Himachal Pradesh - To attract large-scale private investment in the tourism sector, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved the establishment of the Tourism Investment Promotion Council (TIPC). This is a single-window system aimed at expediting approvals and streamlining investor facilitation. The Tourism Council will act as a platform for appraisal and approval of tourism projects with investment of Rs 50 crore and above.
It will be chaired by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and will be supported by an investment promotion cell under the state tourism department. The Council will be governed by the principles of minimum regulation, maximum convenience and timely decision making.
• World's fifth largest aviation market - According to the International Airport Transport Association, India is set to become the world's fifth largest aviation market in 2024 with 241 million passengers. India recorded an 11.1 percent growth in air travel in 2024 compared to 2023, with a total of 211 million passengers travelling by air. The Mumbai-Delhi route ranked seventh in the list of the world's busiest air routes.
The US remains the world's largest aviation market with 876 million passengers, followed by China with 741 million passengers. Britain is at third place with 26.1 crore passengers and Spain is at fourth place with 24.1 crore passengers.
• Monetary Policy Statement, 2025-26 - On August 6, 2025, the Monetary Policy Committee, Reserve Bank of India, chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, released the Monetary Policy Statement, 2025-26. The third bi-monthly monetary policy for 2025-26 has retained the repo rate at 5.50%, projected gross domestic product (GDP) growth at 6.5% and retail inflation (CPI) at 3.7%. Other rates: Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate 5.25%, Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and Bank Rate 5.75%, Reverse Repo Rate 3.35%, CRR 4%, SLR 18%.
• Uttar Pradesh Rural Population Records Bill, 2025 - Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has approved the 'Uttar Pradesh Rural Population Records Bill, 2025' in the cabinet meeting. The objective of this bill is to give legal recognition to the Gharonee , the main property document in rural areas . Gharonee, also known as the Village Residential Record, is the official document of the residential property of the villagers.
Earlier this document was used for limited purposes, but now it will get legal power after the Cabinet approved the Uttar Pradesh Rural Population Records Bill, 2025. With this change, villagers will now be able to easily get loans from banks by mortgaging their residential property, i.e. house and the land attached to it.
• Fortune Global 500 – Fortune magazine released its 'Fortune Global 500' list in July 2025, an annual list of the world's largest companies. According to this list, the total revenue of the companies included in 2024 was $41.7 trillion, which is 1.8% more than the previous year. Together, these companies employ 70.1 million people, and their revenues represent more than one-third of the world's GDP. For the first time, 124 Chinese companies have surpassed the number of US companies (121) in this list.
US retail giant Walmart remains the world's top-ranked company. For the 12th consecutive year and the 20th time since 1995, Walmart has topped the list. It is followed by Amazon . Three Chinese companies are among the top 10: public power company State Grid in third place, China National Petroleum in fifth place and oil and gas giant Sinopec Group in sixth place.
The top 10 global companies (2025) are Walmart, Amazon, State Grid, Saudi Aramco, China National Petroleum, Sinopec Group, UnitedHealth Group, Apple, CVS Health, Berkshire Hathaway.
From India , Reliance Industries Limited retained its position as the top Indian company and stood at 88th position. This year, India is represented by nine companies— five from the public sector and four from the private sector. Besides Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), other Indian companies on the list include LIC (ranked 95), Indian Oil Corporation (127), State Bank of India (163), ONGC (181), HDFC Bank (258), Tata Motors (283), BPCL (285), and ICICI Bank (464).
This list, published by Fortune magazine for the past 70 years, ranks companies based on their total revenue.
• Seafood Exporters' Summit, 2025 - The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying organised the Seafood Exporters' Summit 2025 at Ambedkar Bhawan, New Delhi , with a focus on strengthening India's seafood export potential.
• State Health Regulatory Excellence Index – State Health Regulatory Excellence Index (SHRESH) is a national initiative launched by the Union Ministry of Health to measure and improve the performance of drug regulatory systems in India. It is a data-driven tool developed by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) to help states track progress towards maturity certification and ensure drug safety, quality and efficacy.
• Financial Inclusion Index, 2025 - The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Financial Inclusion Index, which gauges the extent of access to financial services across the country, has risen to 67 in the financial year ending March 2025 (FY25), from 64.2 in the same period last year. The central bank said all sub-indices – access, usage and quality – witnessed an increase. The index is based on three broad criteria: access, which accounts for 35% of the overall score; usage, which contributes 45%; and quality, which has a weighting of 20%.The rise in the FI-Index indicates India's growing success in expanding financial access to underserved populations and improving the quality of financial services available.

• Successful test of Prithvi-II missile – India successfully conducted the night test of nuclear capable ballistic missile Prithvi-II from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha at around 07.46 pm. It is capable of carrying weapons weighing between 500 and 1,000 kilograms. This surface-to-surface missile, which has a range of 350 kilometres, has two engines running on liquid and solid fuel. The Prithvi-2 ballistic missile has been indigenously developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
• Successful test of Agni-I – India has recently successfully test fired the short-range ballistic missile Agni-I from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Odisha. It is powered by solid propellants. Agni-I is a surface -to-surface ballistic missile with a range of 700–1,200 km. It is capable of carrying up to 1,000 kg of conventional payload or nuclear weapons. It is indigenously designed and manufactured by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).
• Warship Ajay – The shallow water anti-submarine warfare ship 'Ajay', designed for the Indian Navy, was successfully launched. It is the last of a series of eight anti-submarine warfare vessels built by Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE). The project consists of 8 anti-submarine warfare corvettes: Arnala, Anjadip, Amini, Agra, Androth, Akshaya, Azhikkal and Ajay. More than 80% indigenous material has been used in all the eight ships built under this project. INS Ajay, an anti-submarine warfare corvette, is 77.6 meters long and 10.5 meters wide and is specifically designed for submarine search and attack operations in shallow waters.
• Two rare butterfly species discovered in Arunachal Pradesh - During the first High Himalayan Butterfly and Biodiversity Conference held at Mechuka in Shi-Yomi district of Arunachal Pradesh , two such species of butterflies have been discovered which were not recorded in India till now. The two species identified are the Metok Green Sapphire (Helephorus gloriae) and the Medog Tufted Ace (Sebastonema bedoensis).
• 'Samudra Prachet' - The second and last indigenous pollution control vessel "Samudra Prachet" built for the Indian Coast Guard by Goa Shipyard Limited was launched at Vasco, Goa. The vessel is developed with 72 per cent indigenous material. The project has contributed to national capacity building and employment generation, especially by involving local industry and micro, small and medium enterprises. It is designed to strengthen India's marine pollution response capabilities. It can recover contaminated water, separate pollutants, and store the recovered oil in designated tanks.
• Successful test of UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile – India successfully flight tested the drone-launched UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 at the National Open Area Testing Range in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
• ICGS Atal – Goa Shipyard Limited launched Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Atal (Yard 1275) Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at a ceremony held at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa. The vessel is the sixth in the series of eight indigenously designed fast patrol vessels being built by Goa Shipyard Limited for the Indian Coast Guard.
• Successful flight test of Pralay missile – Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. Successfully carried out two consecutive test flights of the Pralay missile. The Pralay is a short - range ballistic missile with a range of 150 to 500 kilometers. This missile developed in India is based on solid fuel and is capable of carrying different types of weapons weighing between 350 to 700 kg.
• Exercise Talisman Sabre, 2025 - Australia 's largest military exercise, Talisman Sabre, is being held in Australia from July 13 to August 4. This is the 11th edition of the exercise. The exercise takes place every two years. The three-week-long military exercise began with a ceremony in Sydney. 'Talisman Saber' began in 2005 as a biennial joint military exercise between the US and Australia. India is also participating in this exercise for the first time.
This time more than 35 thousand soldiers from 19 countries are participating in the military exercise. These countries include India, Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga and Britain. Malaysia and Vietnam are alsojoining as observers. The exercise will also take place in Papua New Guinea , Australia's closest neighbour. This is the first time that Talisman Sabre exercises are being conducted outside Australia.
• Successful launch of NISAR mission – NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite was successfully launched by GSLV-F16 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The NISAR satellite is a joint mission between NASA and ISRO. The two space agencies jointly developed it. This is the first mission of its kind through which this satellite has been placed in a sun synchronous polar orbit. Its purpose is to contribute to Earth surface monitoring, climate change, disaster management, and environmental studies. It is the first satellite to use dual radar bands (L-band and S-band) to monitor a wide range of environmental and geological conditions.
• Discovery of a new rare blood group 'CRIB' - A completely new blood group in the world has been found in a 38-year-old woman from Kolar district of Karnataka, which has been named 'CRIB'. The case came to light when the woman was admitted to a hospital in Kolar for heart surgery. Her blood type was normally O Rh+, but when she needed a blood transfusion before the surgery, none of the available O-positive units matched her.
Blood samples from 20 of the woman's family members were subsequently tested, but no match was found. With the support of doctors and the family, the woman underwent successful heart surgery without blood transfusions. The woman's blood samples were sent to the International Blood Group Reference Laboratory (IBGRL) in Bristol, UK, for further testing. After ten months of extensive research and molecular testing, a new blood antigen was discovered, named "CRIB."
The "CR" in the name CRIB stands for Cromer (an existing blood group system), and "IB" stands for India—Bangalore, where the discovery originated. This new antigen is part of the Cromer blood group system. The discovery was officially announced at the 35th Regional Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) held in Milan, Italy in June 2025.
• India's first private testing facility for heavy water upgradation - Mumbai-based Tema India Limited has commissioned the country's first private sector testing facility for upgradation of depleted heavy water at a nuclear manufacturing unit. India's nuclear establishment has for the first time roped in private companies to speed up operations of nuclear power plants, which till now were completely operated internally.
Mumbai-based TEMA India has been entrusted with the task of testing the equipment required for upgrading the depleted heavy water in all the pressurized heavy water reactors in India. Till now, this test was conducted by the country's premier nuclear research institute, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).
• New wolf spider species discovered - Researchers from the Zoological Survey of India in Kolkata have discovered a new species of spider on Sagar Island in the Sundarbans. This discovery is the first recorded instance of the genus Piratula in India. This is a group of wolf spiders found primarily in Asia, with a limited distribution in Europe and North America. Piratula acuminata belongs to the Lycosidae family, commonly known as wolf spiders. It measures approximately 8-10 millimeters long.This spider does not build a web, but is still a strong and agile predator. It feeds primarily on small invertebrates, especially insects.
• First 'Indigenous Hovercraft'- The construction of the first indigenous air cushion vehicle i.e. hovercraft for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has formally started at the Chowgule Shipyard in Goa. Its design is based on the British Griffon Hoverwork model, but it has been adapted to Indian needs to play a vital role in protecting the country's maritime borders. These hovercrafts move at high speed and can operate even in shallow areas.
• INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri inducted into the Indian Navy - The Indian Navy recently received two new warships, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri . They will be deployed in the Indo-Pacific region. Both warships are designed in such a way that they will remain invisible to enemy radar, infrared and voice sensors. Both warships are equipped with the BrahMos supersonic missile and the Barak-8 surface-to-air missile. They also have 76mm naval guns and underwater torpedo explosive weapons.
INS Himgiri is the first of the P17A frigates built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). Its name is derived from the older INS Himgiri. INS Udaygiri was built by Mumbai's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited . Named after the Udaygiri mountain range in Andhra Pradesh, it was built in just 37 months. This is the first time that two major warships built in different shipyards are being inducted into the Navy simultaneously. About 75 percent indigenous material has been used in these warships.
• 'Agnishodh' Research Cell - Indian Army in collaboration with IIT Madras has launched an Indian Army Research Cell called 'Agnishodh'. Indian Army Research Cell (IARC) has been established. This cell is dedicated to defence innovation, cutting edge technology development and indigenous. It has been established at the IIT Madras campus with the aim of promoting research which will help in strengthening the operational capabilities of the Army.
• Largest Asian tortoise – Ten critically endangered Asian giant tortoises were released in the Zeliang Community Reserve in Peren district of Nagaland. Ten turtles of this species were released into the reserve through a community programme from the Nagaland Zoological Park at Rangapahar in Chumoukedima district.The event was organised by the Nagaland Forest Department and the India Turtle Conservation Programme.
• SAP Labs India Innovation Park– SAP Labs India has inaugurated its state-of-the-art Innovation Park spread across 41.07 acres in Devanahalli , Bengaluru , Karnataka. Strategically located near Kempegowda International Airport, the campus is envisioned as a major innovation and R&D hub for India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. When fully operational, it will employ 15,000 professionals.
• Heptapleurum assamicum – A new plant species named Heptapleurum assamicum has been discovered in Dima Hasao and West Karbi Anglong districts of Assam, India. It belongs to the family Araliaceae , which is also home to the ornamental umbrella plant (H. arboricola).
• Skyroot tests rocket stage ahead of Vikram-1 maiden flight - Hyderabad-based space startup firm Skyroot Aerospace has announced that it has successfully static tested the Stage 1 carbon composite solid fuel booster stage of the rocket for Vikram-1, the country's first privately developed orbital launch vehicle, at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR in Sriharikota. Named 'Kalam-1200 ' after former President and rocket scientist APJ Abdul Kalam, this rocket stage is the largest monolithic solid rocket motor developed in India's space sector.
With a length of 11 metres, it can generate a peak vacuum thrust of about 1200 kN, which is about 10 times more than the engines of the Boeing 737 Max. During the flight, the Kalam-1200 will take Vikram-1 to an altitude of over 50 km from the launch pad, after which a precise and advanced pneumatic system will enable seamless stage separation.
• Warship 'Ikshak ' – Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers delivered the warship 'Ikshak' to the Indian Navy on August 14, 2025. 'Ikshak' meaning 'Guide' is the third in a series of four Survey Vessels (Large) built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. The second ship of this class, INS Nirdeshak, was commissioned into the Navy in October 2024, while the first ship, INS Sandhayak, was commissioned into the Navy in December 2023.
• 'Baaz Akh Anti Drone System'– Punjab is the first state in the country to deploy portable anti-drone system to stop smuggling of arms and drugs from Pakistan. Punjab launched a new anti-drone system called 'Baaz Akh ' (Eagle's Eye) from the border district of Tarn Taran. This system will instantly disable drones trying to enter the state from across the border. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the system would be deployed as a second line of defense along the border from Pathankot to Fazilka. He said it would be made operational in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF).
• India's first drone-based artificial rain (cloud seeding) - The first drone-based cloud seeding project in India was launched in the Ramgarh Dam area near Jaipur, Rajasthan. Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena launched India's first drone-based artificial rain trial at Ramgarh Dam. Rajasthan's state agriculture department has launched the country's first drone-based cloud seeding experiment with an aim to address the water crisis and revive Ramgarh Lake.
This experiment is being conducted as a pilot project and in this, US and Bengaluru based company GenX AI is working in collaboration with the Agriculture Department. Cloud seeding involves spraying chemicals like silver iodide or sodium chloride into clouds using drones. These chemicals help convert moisture in the clouds into droplets, which then cause rain. However, the demo faced initial hiccups due to obstacles in controlling the drone and GPS signal issues.
• Venera-D Mission – Venera-D is a proposed Russian space mission aimed at conducting in-depth scientific studies of the atmosphere, surface, and climate system of Venus . The mission will consist of an orbiter, a lander and a balloon probe. The 'D' stands for the Russian word 'dolgozhivushaya', meaning 'long-lived' or 'long-lasting'. The mission will be Russia's largest Venus exploration effort since the Soviet-era Venera and Vega programs.
The mission is expected to launch between 2034 and 2036 and preliminary design work on the instruments it will include will begin in January 2026. The main purpose of the orbiter is to make observations using radar. The lander will be able to operate on the planet's surface for long periods. The balloon probe will fly into Venus' atmosphere and study its environment.

• Sansad Ratna Awards, 2025 - Seventeen MPs were honoured with the Sansad Ratna Awards, 2025 for their outstanding performance in New Delhi. Maharashtra has the highest number of MPs with 7 receiving the honour. This award is given to those MPs who have played an important role in strengthening democracy through discussions, questions and answers, legislative work and policy suggestions in the Parliament. It was established in 2010 by the Prime Point Foundation and the e-magazine Presence, inspired by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. He inaugurated the first award ceremony in Chennai. These honours also include four Special Jury Awards, recognizing his sustained contribution to parliamentary democracy over three consecutive terms.
Special Jury Awards have been presented to Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP, Odisha), NK Premachandran (Revolutionary Socialist Party, Kerala), Supriya Sule (NCP-SP, Maharashtra), and Shrirang Appa Barne (Shiv Sena, Maharashtra) – all of whom have maintained top performance since the 16th Lok Sabha.

Scheme/Project
• World's largest hydroelectric dam project – China has started construction of the world's largest hydroelectric dam, known as the Motuo Hydropower Station, on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It will cost $170 billion and is expected to generate 300 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, equivalent to the amount of electricity consumed by Britain last year. The project is part of China's effort to expand renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.
The dam, consisting of five hydropower stations, will be located in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. The Yarlung Zangbo River, which originates in Tibet and flows south into India and then Bangladesh to become the Brahmaputra River, has raised concerns in both countries about the project. It could affect millions of people in India and Bangladesh. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang described the hydropower project as "the project of the century."
The construction started by China in Tibet will be the largest man-made concrete structure on Earth. This will be the world's largest hydropower dam. When this power project becomes operational, it will provide electricity to 30 crore people of China.
• "Lado Sakhi" Scheme - The state government is continuously making innovative efforts to increase the birth rate of girls in Haryana . As part of this initiative, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has launched a new scheme in the state, ahead of the Lado Lakshmi Scheme. The Chief Minister has announced this during the Teej festival from Ambala. Under this scheme, Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, and ANM nurses will assist pregnant women. An incentive of ₹1,000 will be provided for the birth of every daughter. The Lado Sakhi scheme will strengthen the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.
• Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana- The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) launched the 'Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana.' The scheme was launched during the Northern Regional Conference held in Srinagar. The objective of this scheme is to provide free legal aid to defence personnel and their families.
• Setubandha Scholar Scheme – Central Sanskrit University and Department of Indian Knowledge Systems have launched Setubandha Scholar Scheme. Launched for the first time, this scheme is for traditional scholars who have studied Indian sciences or arts in depth by staying under a Guru or Gurukul for at least 5 years. Eighteen areas have been selected in which they will be able to conduct research. The government will also provide scholarships for this purpose. The aim of this scheme is to establish a bridge between Indian traditional knowledge and modern education.
•'Him Bus Plus' Scheme - Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri launched the 'Him Bus Plus' scheme. The scheme integrates identity management with cashless payments and offers fare discounts to passengers using Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses, including Volvo services. Under this scheme, passengers will get a five percent discount on fares, while under the loyalty program, cashback benefits will be available on the basis of monthly travel.
• Annadata Sukhibhav-PM Kisan Yojana - Andhra Pradesh government has started Annadata Sukhibhav Yojana to provide financial assistance to farmers. Under this scheme, each selected farmer receives ₹20,000 annually. This amount is divided between the state government (₹14,000) and the central government (₹6,000). This amount is given in three installments.
• National Waterway-57 operationalised – National Waterway (NW)-57 (Kopili River) has been commissioned on August 2, 2025, leading to resumption of inter-state waterway cargo transport in Assam after more than a decade. For the first time, the trial run of cargo ship started from Govardhan Bridge in Chandrapur, Kamrup to Hatsingimari in South Samara. The trial involved self-loading vessel MV VV Giri, which transported 300 metric tonnes of cement from M/s Star Cement across 300 kms on Kopili River (NW 57) and Brahmaputra River (NW 2) in a journey of about 12 to 14 hours.
• Telangana Sports Policy - Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the state's sports policy at the first Telangana Sports Conference. Under this, the sports infrastructure in the state will be expanded, career in sports will be promoted and the sports environment will be improved. To this end, the state government will form a 14-member governing board to manage the Telangana Sports Development Fund. This board will include renowned sportspersons such as Kapil Dev, Abhinav Bindra, Pullela Gopichand, Baichung Bhutia, and Sanjiv Goenka. It aims to establish the state as a national and international sports hub.
• Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Scholarship Scheme – Uttar Pradesh Government has launched Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Scholarship Scheme. Under this program, five talented students from the state will be awarded scholarships each year to pursue a one-year master's degree at prestigious universities in the United Kingdom. The scholarships will cover tuition fees, living expenses, and airfare. The government has made a provision of Rs 2 crore for this.
After the approval of the Cabinet, this scheme has come into effect from the session 2025-26. The average cost per student under the scheme will be 40 to 45 lakh rupees, with the state government providing 23 lakh rupees, while the remaining amount will be borne by the United Kingdom government. The scheme will be in force for an initial period of three years and a decision on renewal will be taken on March 30, 2028. The students will be selected jointly by representatives of the Uttar Pradesh government and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom.
• 'Chief Minister Nijut Moina 2.0' Scheme - 'Chief Minister Nijut Moina 2.0' is a scheme of the Assam Government, launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 6 August 2025. The scheme aims to increase the participation of girls in higher education and eliminate child marriage, under which monthly financial assistance is provided to girl students pursuing higher education.
• Tato-II Hydroelectric Project– India's Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an investment of Rs 8,146.21 crore for the construction of Tato-II Hydroelectric Project in Shiyomi district of Arunachal Pradesh. According to the Ministry of Power, the project has an installed capacity of 700 MW and will generate 2738.06 million units of energy. It will be implemented through a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The Government of India will also allocate Rs 458.79 crore as budgetary support for construction of roads, bridges and associated transmission lines.The Tato-II hydroelectric project is expected to be completed in 72 months.

• India NCX, 2025 – India NCX (National Cyber Security Exercise) 2025 was a national-level exercise conducted to strengthen India's cyber security preparedness, which ran from July 21 to August 1, 2025.
• Exercise Bold Kurukshetra, 2025 – The 14th edition of the India-Singapore joint military exercise “Exercise Bold Kurukshetra” was held in Jodhpur. The aim of this exercise is to enhance the inter-operability and joint training capabilities of both the armies under the United Nations mandate. The exercise was in the form of a table top exercise and computer-based maneuvers. Its aim is to strengthen operational procedures for mechanized warfare.
• SIMBEX, 2025– The 32nd edition of the India-Singapore Naval bilateral exercise SIMBEX, 2025 was held in Singapore from July 28 to August 1, 2025. This year's exercise included a coastal phase at the RSS Singapore-Changi Naval Base followed by a sea phase in the southern end of the South China Sea. Indian Navy ship INS Satpura participated in this exercise.
• SLINEX, 2025 – The 12th edition of the Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise SLINEX was held in Colombo from 14-18 August 2025. This exercise was conducted in two phases. The first phase began with the Harbour Phase in Colombo, which lasted from August 14-16, 2025, followed by the Sea Phase from August 17-18, 2025. Indian Navy ships INS Rana and INS Jyoti participated in it. The previous edition of the exercise was held in Visakhapatnam, India in 2024. This exercise was started in the year 2005.
• Operation Alert – On August 11, 2025, the Border Security Force (BSF) launched a week-long security operation called 'Operation Alert' along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan. It aims to further strengthen security measures ahead of Independence Day, which concludes on August 17, 2025.

• India's International Conference on Nations, 2025 - Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the India's International Conference on Nations, 2025. Piyush Goyal urged the youth to actively contribute towards building a developed India by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi under the 'Panch Pranas' for Amrit Kaal. • Maritime Financing Summit, 2025 - The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is organizing the Maritime Financing Summit, 2025 in New Delhi. Successfully hosted the 2025. It brought together senior policymakers, industry leaders, global investors and domain experts to deliberate on transformative financial strategies for India's maritime future. The summit is in line with the Maritime Amrit Kal Vision 2047, which aims to establish India as one of the world's leading maritime powers by strengthening shipbuilding, port infrastructure and financial resilience.
• 14th International Heritage Tourism Conference, 2025 – PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organised its 14th International Heritage Tourism Conference in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Gujarat Tourism, Delhi Tourism, IndiGo and IRCTC at Laxmi Villas Palace, Vadodara, Gujarat. • First Armed Forces National Conference SHAPE, 2025 – Army Hospital Research and Referral, New Delhi organised India's first Armed Forces National Conference, SHAPE 2025. Its main theme was sustainable hospital planning and architecture. The event saw over 275 professionals, including doctors, architects, engineers and administrators from both military and civilian sectors, deliberate on eco-friendly, disaster-resilient and patient-centric healthcare infrastructure.
• National Security Strategy Conference, 2025 - Union Home and Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the two-day 8th National Security Strategy Conference, 2025 in New Delhi. The conference was held in a hybrid, physical and virtual, format. About 800 officers from across the country participated in it and had in-depth discussions on various issues related to national security.
• Young Leaders Roundtable, 2025 – Young Leaders Roundtable was held on August 5, 2025 in New Delhi. The theme of the roundtable was ' Role of Youth Exchange and Sports in India-Nepal Bilateral Relations'.The conference was chaired by Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and co-organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Observer Research Foundation (ORF). • Trade Agreement Between the United States and the European Union – President Donald J. Trump announced a trade agreement with the European Union (EU) that will fundamentally rebalance the economic relationship between the world's two largest economies. This will give Americans unprecedented access to the EU market. The EU will buy $750 billion worth of US energy by 2028 and make $600 billion in new investments in the US. Under President Trump's strategy to establish balanced trade, the EU will pay a 15% tariff rate to the US on a range of goods, including automobiles and auto parts, medicines and semiconductors. However, regional tariffs on steel, aluminium and copper will remain unchanged, with the EU continuing to pay 50%.
• INF Treaty – In August 2025, Russia officially withdrew from the INF Treaty (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty). Russia has officially announced that it is no longer bound by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. The 1987 arms control agreement banned ground-launched missiles with ranges of 500 to 5,500 kilometers.
• MoU between National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) - Private Sector Banks - With a view to facilitate availability, accessibility and affordability of credit to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, National Small Industries Corporation signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with various private sector banks namely Axis Bank, Dhanlaxmi Bank, Karnataka Bank, AU Small Finance Bank and IndusInd Bank on August 11, 2025 under its MSME Credit Facilitation Programme.

•World Athletics makes gene testing mandatory for women's category eligibility - The World Athletics Council approved new eligibility conditions for competing in the women's category. Now, female athletes will be required to undergo a gender-based test , or SRY gene test, once in their lifetime . Any female athlete who fails this test will be barred from participating in world-ranked competitions.
Actually, this rule has been made to stop the players who have changed their gender and entered the competition as women in the past years, which will come into effect from September 1, 2025. In such a situation, female athletes will not be able to participate in the World Athletics Championships to be held in Tokyo from August 13 without passing the SRY gene test. This once-in-a-lifetime test will be conducted via a cheek swab or blood test, whichever is more convenient. This test will identify the player's gender.
